(KansasReporter) TOPEKA, Kan. - The Kansas Judicial Center announced Friday that for four weeks, the state's court system will shut down on Fridays, which will save $220,000 per closed day.
The four day work weeks will start April 5 and go through May 7.
Judicial employees will be on furlough for those Fridays, which was one of the only ways to actually save money considering salaries make up approximately 98% of the Judicial Branch budget.
"Our cost saving options are quite limited," said Justice Lawton Nuss.
The four Friday shut downs came as governor Mark Parkinson, and the Kansas Legislature actually gave back about $5 million to what had been a severely cut judicial budget. Originally, more Friday shut downs were a possibility.
The Friday closures add up to a total of $880,000 in savings.
